INDECOM probing police fatal shooting of man at Falmouth NIS office

TRELAWNY, Jamaica— The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has commenced a probe into the fatal shooting of a man who allegedly drew a knife at members of a police team during a confrontation at the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) office in Falmouth on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Dilbert, of a Wellington Street, Falmouth address.
The Trelawny police report that two officers went to the NIS office in Falmouth to investigate a report that a man was creating disturbances at the facility.
Upon the arrival of the police the perpetrator reportedly pounced upon one of the two cops. He then allegedly held on to the cop’s clothing and bit him.
He was subsequently shot by the other cop who went in assistance of his colleague after the man reportedly pulled a knife from his waistband.
The Falmouth police are also investigating.
