Argentina is a country on cloud nine after their team ended a 36-year wait to win the FIFA World Cup after Lionel Messi’s inspired display saw them edge out France on penalties after the game had finished 3-3 after extra time.

Incredible drone footage has captured the wild celebrations at the Obelisco de Buenos Aires located in the Plaza de la República as hundreds of thousands of Argentines took to the streets of the capital.

The video has gone viral as it was widely shared across social media with many posting their congratulations to Argentina following their dramatic win in the soccer showpiece.

It was Messi’s final World Cup game for his country and there was much jubilation that the acclaimed G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) realized his dream of lifting the iconic trophy and leading his country to World Cup glory in Qatar.

Drone pilot Ale Petra, an Argentine filmmaker, captured the outburst of joy as he gave a bird’s eye view of the extent of the crowds in Buenos Aires with people wearing the national jersey as far as the eye could see in all directions.

Petra posted the video on Instagram along with the caption: “WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS! Leo Messi you asked us to trust the team, so we trusted.”

There was plenty of love for the World Cup winners and the mesmerizing video in the comments, with one writing: “So happy for you guys! Well deserved 👏🏽. Absolutely love the shot🔥 @alepetra_”

Another added: “wow! Argentinians know how to celebrate. Well done Champions!”

Meanwhile, on Twitter, one user commented: “No one comes even close to the Argentines, what a sight.”

There were some that couldn’t help making a joke at former president Donald Trump’s expense, with one writing: “That looks like the inauguration crowd Trump thought he had.”

Before the final, Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, shared a letter written by their 10-year-old Thiago to his dad as a message of encouragement before he led Argentina to glory.

In the letter, the youngster quotes ‘Muchachos’, which is the Argentinian song that Messi and his teammates sang after they defeated Croatia on Tuesday.

The letter, which is written in Spanish, reads: “I was born in Argentina, land of Diego [Maradona] and Lionel.

“Boys, now we are excited again, I want to win the third, I want to be world champion, and we can see Diego from heaven, with Don Diego and La Tota, rooting for Lionel.”
