Increase wildfire threat Wednesday as humidity lowers and winds increase

GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE. WE ARE WATCHING IDALIA AS IT HAS NOW STRENGTHENED TO A BEAST OF A CATEGORY 4 STORM. WE ARE EXPECTING LANDFALL IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE BIG BEND WITHIN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. WIND GUSTS WITHIN THE EYE WALL HAVE REACHED BETWEEN 125 AND 130 MPH. WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES ARE EXPECTED IN THE NORTHERN PART OF FLORIDA, SOUTHERN GEORGIA AND THE EASTERN CAROLINAS. WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN SEVERAL AREAS ALONG FLORIDA’S WEST COAST FLOODED. WINDS ALONG THE COAST ARE PICKING UP AND WAVE HEIGHTS ARE INCREASING IN THE BIG BEND AREA. HERE AT HOME, TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE UPPER 60S AND 70S WITH WIDESPREAD CLEAR SKIES. WE COULD HAVE A FEW CLOUDS AROUND BUT SHOULD STAY FAIRLY CLEAR. HIGHS TODAY WILL REACH THE MID TO LOW 90S. HUMIDITY IS ALSO FALLING THIS MORNING, BRINGING DRIER AIR AND MORE COMFORTABLE CONDITIONS TO THE REGION. THE AFTERNOON WILL STILL BE HOT BUT NOT AS HUMID. WINDS TODAY WILL GUSTS BETWEEN 15-20 MPH. UNFORTUNATELY, WITH THE DROP IN HUMIDITY AND THE UPTICK IN WIND GUSTS, THIS WILL ENACT A RED FLAG WARNING FOR MUCH OF CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI TODAY.
