Inaugural Cinco de Mayo event brings fun, culture to downtown Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI– The sun was shining and downtown Grand Rapids came alive to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

People gathered at Rosa Parks Circle downtown for a celebration of cultural heritage. Mexican Heritage Association of West Michigan put on the event for the first time.

Live music, activities for children, food trucks and an arts and crafts sale were part of the entertainment.

A contest was also held for the best mole, a tradition Mexican sauce.

The inaugural event, which began at noon, runs until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 5. A full schedule of events can be found here.
