I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! tested actor Shane Richie to the limit tonight (November 24), as he was subjected to the Cruel Jewels Trial following a viewer vote.

Shane was a bag of nerves as he arrived for the trial, confessing to hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly that he felt like “a six-foot overweight dad of five, just full of mixed emotions right now”.

Dec explained that the Cruel Jewels trial would require Shane to retrieve 12 stars hidden amongst the castle’s ‘crown jewels’, which would involve Shane having to work his way through a series of display cabinets that were each packed with critters.

Shane endured maggots, mealworms, cockroaches and crickets as he dug around for some very special crystal-edged stars fit for castle royalty.

A throne guarded by four Royal Python snakes and four bearded dragons proved a real challenge for Shane too as he was forced to unscrew two stars with his tongue, while another section, also containing snakes, saw Shane trying to pull stars off large sceptres.

Another box saw Shane confronted with toads before his head was covered in enormous spider webs created by no less than 200 spiders sharing the box with him. But while Dec admitted that this part of the trial was particularly “horrible”, Shane managed to win another two stars using his tongue.

The final box contained naked rats and scorpions, which Shane managed to skirt around to grab another two stars.

Having completed the trial, Shane said: “That was alright wasn’t it? I had a little panic attack with the old spiders though,” adding that “seeing all the webs” had freaked him out.

Shane was delighted to realise that he had managed to get all 12 stars during the Trial, declaring: “We’re going to eat like kings and queens!”

His fellow campmates were over the moon at Shane’s success, with Vernon Kay announcing that he was “overjoyed” while Ruthie Henshall called Shane a “star legend”.

The celebrities later feasted on crayfish and chilli for dinner, making for a very happy camp.

Viewers couldn’t get over Shane’s terrified expressions – and his rather impressive tongue action – while retrieving the stars:

But other viewers thought that Shane had got off lightly with his Trial, compared to some of the other Trials during this series so far:

Unfortunately for Shane, his stellar performance in the Trial hasn’t saved him from having to go through another one, as viewers voted for him and actress Jessica Plummer to take on tomorrow’s Trial together.
