I’m A Celeb: Celebrities change into their trial outfits

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! viewers saw more of Matt Hancock than they liked during this evening’s update.

The former health secretary – who receives an annual salary of £84,144 thanks to his job as a sitting MP – dressed the part for the Celebrity Cyclone challenge alongside Jill Scott, Owen Warner and Mike Tindall.

Mr Hancock – who has been slammed for ditching his constituents to enjoy a stint Down Under – was accused of ‘trying to be sexy’ as viewers reacted to seeing a sitting MP parade around in spandex hotpants on a reality TV show.

After royal Mike accused the politician of shamelessly trying to get more viewers to vote for him to remain in the jungle, it was time for the remaining campmates to prepare for the infamous Celebrity Cyclone challenge.

“I never thought I’d make it to the Cyclone. It’s going to be absolutely brilliant, I can’t wait,” Mr Hancock said ahead of the trial.

After dressing up in a pair of skimpy hotpants and a cape, the MP revealed his ‘superhero’ name and proudly said: “I am the Bronze Bronco and I’m holding on for dear life.”

Viewers watching at home took issue with the irony of Mr Hancock having a ‘superhero’ name, given his failings in government and his mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, former Downing Street chief adviser Dominic Cummings alleged, “tens of thousands of people died who didn’t need to die” during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic due to what he claimed to be “criminal, disgraceful behaviour” within Downing Street under the supervision of Mr Hancock.

“Imagine being told 2 years ago you’d be seeing Matt Hancock on I’m a Celeb in a superhero cape and spandex, feels like we are living in a dystopian world,” one fan of the ITV show declared on Twitter as the show aired this evening.

“Matt dressed up as a polished s*** #ImACeleb,” another quipped online, as a third added: “Things I really don’t need to see…Matt Hancock in hotpants.”

One viewer took aim at the MP’s intentions, writing: “#ImACeleb was Matt Hancock trying to be sexy there?? [sick emoji].”

Another of the many scathing tweets read: “I was quite happy living life without seeing matt hancock in spandex x #ImACeleb.”

Earlier this week, it was revealed Mr Hancock skipped a dyslexia charity’s event in order to enjoy himself in the jungle.

Before losing the Tory whip due to his reality TV venture, Mr Hancock claimed his reason for camping in the Australian jungle alongside soap stars and musicians was all down to his desire to connect with the British public and raise awareness of dyslexia.

It’s since been reported that Mr Hancock was “unable to fulfil his prior commitment” to speak at a dyslexia charity’s 50th anniversary last week due to opting to appear on our television screens nightly .
