‘Ignore Offers’ – Exclusive: Agbonlahor reacts to big reported Douglas Luiz update
Luiz #Luiz
Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is fully deserving of a new contract, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed securing Luiz’s long-term future could allow the club to ignore any offers for him in January.
The Express & Star reported earlier this month the Midlands giants are eyeing up new deals for the midfielder and his teammate Ezri Konsa.
The pair would follow Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings and John McGinn in signing new deals with the club in recent months.
Luiz moved to Villa Park from Manchester City for £15million last summer and his performances this season have seen him become a regular with the Brazil national team.
The 23-year-old has missed just one Premier League game this term and has played a vital role in a Villa side that have kept eight clean sheets.
“All the players that are performing consistently deserve to be tied up,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“I think it will be something Villa look to do because you don’t want people to be coming in in January for your best players.
“You’ll want them to be tied up then you can ignore offers like they’ve done with Grealish.
“I reckon with Douglas Luiz it’s something they’ll look to do because he’s been very impressive.”
Luiz has played 55 times for Villa since his move from the four-time Premier League champions last July.
He has five caps for Brazil after making his debut in a friendly against South Korea last November.
