If you are traveling with an AmeriGas propane grill tank, better check this recall

AmeriGas has recalled some propane tanks sold in New England but is concerned that people traveling on vacation could also have possession of the cylinders.

AmeriGas said 490 AmeriGas Propane Exchange 20-pound barbecue cylinders/tanks have a manufacturing defect that could result in a leak and has the potential to spark a fire.

“AmeriGas does not manufacture these barbecue cylinders/tanks but is issuing this recall for their recovery in order to protect our consumers and their safety, which is paramount,” the company said.

The tanks were sold at retailers in southern and central New Hampshire and in the Boston, Massachusetts, area between July 27 and Aug. 2.

The recalled tanks are marked “EVAS-M0859″ on the ring around the top with the carry handle. Tanks without that number and purchased elsewhere outside of the time frame are unaffected.

“The only barbecue cylinders/tanks that showed any signs of leakage were those that were disconnected from an outdoor appliance/grill prior to closing the main valve. If these barbecue cylinders/tanks are properly turned off, they pose no additional hazard for transportation.

“All barbecue cylinders/tanks that have been distributed to the AmeriGas Propane Exchange barbecue cylinder/tank cages throughout the impacted area were checked and confirmed to be leak-free multiple times before shipment,” AmeriGas said.

AmeriGas said people who purchased the recalled tanks can return them to the place of purchase for a free replacement.
