‘BBC journalists have been fired for less’

The majority of readers were keen for Gary Lineker to go, as they saw his tweets as the final misdemeanour in a string of offensives during his time at the BBC.

Readers also suggested the commentator’s salary was disproportionate to his role, and now was the perfect opportunity for the broadcaster to cut their losses.

‘If he tweeted support I suspect most would not be bothered’

Readers less averse to Gary Lineker remaining at the BBC argued that he is within his right to express political opinions on his personal social media account.
