Simon Jordan insists he would have sacked Scott Parker if he was the Bournemouth owner, as he defended the club’s decision to axe their manager four games into the season.

Parker was dismissed from his post at the Premier League club on Tuesday, having taken the reins at the Vitality Stadium in 2021.

In his only full season, he guided the Cherries to automatic promotion back to the top flight, but lasted only a month in the Premier League.

Despite starting the season with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa, Bournemouth have gone on to lose their last three games, conceding 16 goals without reply.

Saturday’s 9-0 defeat at Liverpool set the wheels in motion for owner Maxim Demin to pull the trigger but Parker’s comments regarding the club’s expenditure ultimately sealed his fate.

Following the game at Anfield, the former Tottenham and Chelsea star claimed the club had not invested enough money in the squad this summer after spending £22.5million on Marcos Senesi and Marcus Tavanier whilst Ryan Fredericks, Joe Rothwell and Neto were brought in on free transfers.

Parker, 41, insisted he was ‘not surprised’ his side were mauled by Liverpool as the team was ‘underequipped’ to compete at the top level.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan took exception to Parker’s public comments and sided with the Bournemouth owner.

“Yes, I would have sacked him,” Jordan told talkSPORT when asked if he would have taken the same course of action as Demin.

“I would have told him in the pre-season, ‘Listen, I know it’s not ideal, this is how we’re going to run this football club. You have a choice. If you go now, guess who’s going to cop it? Me, I’m going to cop it because ultimately people are going to see you as the all-conquering hero’.

“But I’m prepared to take that risk because I’m going to run this football club. I’m going to give you some money in the summer, I might give you a little bit more in January but we’re not gonna break the bank and we’re not going to spend a lot of money.”

Jordan also took aim at Parker for a perceived lack of loyalty and claimed the ex-England star was merely protecting his own position at the expense of the club.

“[If I was Bournemouth’s owner I’d say] ‘come and speak to me as much as you want because you work for me and when we walk out of this room we retain a degree of loyalty to one another.

“’Ultimately I will not be out there undermining your position because you got beat 9-0 because I know the hand I’ve dealt you.’ What you don’t do is look after yourself.

“This wasn’t about integrity, this was about Scott Parker protecting his own position.”
