Ibrox hero Barry Ferguson compares ‘clever’ Rangers star to £150k-a-week ace

Ibrox legend Barry Ferguson has told Go Radio that new Rangers signing Malik Tillman reminds him of Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Tillman has joined the club on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Tillman, 20, made his debut for Rangers on Saturday afternoon during a 2-1 win over Livingston. He came on at half-time, replacing Scott Wright, and played an important part in his side’s comeback to win away from home.

The two-time USA international should have equalised, but it was more an impressive save from Shamal George. His rebound shot was saved at close range. But Tillman has made a lasting impression, in his first outing for Rangers.

He could be included in the starting line-up on Tuesday night against Belgian side Union St. Gilloise. Speaking about his first showing and watching Tillman on YouTube, Ferguson says he reminds him of £150k-a-week Loftus-Cheek.

“I’ve watched a lot of him, as a lot of people have done, on YouTube. He looks like Loftus-Cheek at Chelsea, he reminds me of him. On that surface, against that team, his quality was jumping out of him.

“Rangers have got a top player on their hands, 20 years of age. It will be interesting to see what happens going forward. Picks up great wee areas, very clever. I was very impressed,” Ferguson said.

Loftus-Cheek is a top player. One that, although has struggled for game time at Chelsea, but done enough to play 121 times at senior level for the Blues. A player that earns far more than any Rangers player will be taking home.

If Tillman can be anything as good as Loftus-Cheek, but in Scottish football, he will be an enormous success in Scotland. If his first outing is anything to go by, the permanent clause in his loan has got to be activated.
