‘I left the team down’ – Honest Onana fronts up after error | OneFootball

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana took responsibility after his mistake in United’s 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Onana’s error led to Bayern Munich taking the lead after he failed to deal with a tame Leroy Sane shot in the 27th minute.

Bayern Munich doubled their lead five minutes later, which had Erik ten Hag’s side facing an uphill task.

“It is difficult to lose this way because I think at the beginning we started very good, and after my mistake we lost control of the game,” he said.

“It is a difficult situation for us, for me especially because I am the one who let the team down.

“We just have to move, this is the life of a goalkeeper. If we didn’t win today it is because of me.”

Onana has conceded 14 goals in five matches during a poor run of form for United, who have lost three games on the bounce in all competitions.

The goalkeeper’s blunder came after a spell in which Bayern Munich were looking second best, with United creating the better opportunities in the opening exchanges.

“We were very good on the ball, they did not create any chances. The first shot on target I made the mistake, so I think that was a key point. The team went down because of that mistake.

“I have to learn to move on, it is not an easy situation but I am very happy for the comeback of the team as we were fighting until the end.”
