‘I had to be subbed off’: Hilarious reason Gutho was axed as ballboy during Origin III

Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson has revealed he was booted off the sideline during the third State of Origin game on Wednesday night for being “a bit loud”.
Gutherson was in the NSW squad but didn’t make the final team, and so was lumped with the duties of ballboy given no children were allowed in the Covid bubble to do the job.
But when he spoke to Fox League before the Eels game on Friday night, a secret was let loose about what happened late in the game which the Blues lost 20-18.

It was NSW adviser Greg Alexander who let the cat out of the bag.
“You did your job as the ballboy outstandingly well,” Alexander said.
“Did it all run smoothly on the sidelines or was there a bit of controversy on Wednesday night?”
Gutherson burst into laughter and confirmed he had, in fact, been punted from the job before full-time.
‘Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town’ premieres on Fox League, FOX8 and Kayo on Monday, July 19 at 7.30pm.

“I didn’t want to talk about it Brandy (Alexander)… I had to be subbed off with 10 to go,” Gutherson said.
“I got a bit loud, was yelling out a bit too much on the sidelines.
“I actually felt like I’d played after the game, I was running up and down, if someone made a break I was charging.”
Gutherson revealed his Eels teammate Junior Paulo would be ballboy for their game against the Titans on Friday night, having been rested following his Origin game.
