Hurricane Delta makes landfall near Puerto Morelos with winds of 110 mph

Hurricane Delta is getting bigger fast and speeding up as it takes aim at Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

It’s now a Category 2 hurricane with top winds of 110 mph.

Category 2 Hurricane Delta made landfall Wednesday morning around 5:30 a.m. near Puerto Morelos with winds of 110 mph.

Although some weakening is likely when Delta moves over the Yucatan peninsula, re-strengthening is forecast when the hurricane moves over the southern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday night and Thursday, and Delta could become a category 4 hurricane again by late Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Weakening is expected as Delta approaches the northern Gulf coast on Friday.
