‘Huge signing’ – Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison delivers glowing verdict on new recruit and is ‘certain’ of more transfers

Sean Morrison has hailed Kieffer Moore as a “huge signing” for Cardiff City and believes he will be a “massive asset” to the squad this season.
The Wales striker is the only player the Bluebirds have brought in on a permanent transfer in a deal believed to be worth around £2m.
The forward’s stock has risen remarkably in recent seasons owing to his exploits with Barnsley, Wigan and, of course, the Wales national team.
The 28-year-old appears to have arrived in the Football League and, despite minimal service, looked a handful last weekend in the defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.
Recently, Swansea City defender Ben Cabango and Stoke City goalkeeper Adam Davies sung Moore’s praises while away on international duty with Wales, with the former revealing he was not enjoying marking the frontman in training.
Morrison, too, can appreciate Cabango’s struggles, having to go toe to toe with the towering striker every day on the training pitch at the club’s HQ.
And the Bluebirds skipper believes the signing of Moore has added great quality to Neil Harris’ squad and he hopes the Wales international can have a fruitful season in front of goal.
“It’s good to have another big man in the squad! Me, Flinty (Aden Flint) and Kieffer,” Morrison said ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash with Nottingham Forest.
“He’s a very good player. For a big man, his touch and link-up play is fantastic. He is much more than a big target man and I was very aware of that, having played against him over the last few seasons.
“He is a massive asset to the squad. It’s fantastic to be training with him every day. He is a great lad off the pitch as well.
“For us, as a club, it’s a huge signing and fingers crossed he can have a great year for us.
“Kieffer obviously started last weekend, but the quality of strikers we have throughout the squad, hopefully they can chip in with a few goals this year.”
Moore and Sheyi Ojo have been brought in to bolster the attacking ranks so far in this transfer window, however Neil Harris on Thursday revealed he was still keen to add further quality at the top end of the pitch.
And Morrison is sure there will be “a few” more signings before the domestic window closes on October 16.
“We have got a settled squad, a fairly small squad, but a great group,” he added.
“I’m sure come October, when the transfer window shuts, there will be a couple of new faces, but with the amount of games coming from that October period until Christmas we are going to need the squad.
“If there are a few new faces they will be welcomed and if they hit the ground running then that’s fantastic for us.
“But at the moment, the squad looks welcomed, but I’m pretty certain there will be a few faces come the end of the transfer window, for sure.”
Lee Tomlin’s well-documented injury struggles have been a bone of frustration for the player, the management and the fans in recent years.
This week it appears the talisman has suffered another injury setback, ruling him out of starting the game at the City Ground and he may miss the clash all together.
But Morrison has backed the playmaker to play a big part once again this season, but urged patience with regards to allowing him to return to full fitness before rushing him back into the starting lineup.
“Most squads in the Championship would want Lee Tomlin in their team,” Morrison said.
“When he is on it and he is fighting fit then he can unlock defences and he is a game winner.
“In the Championship, there are so many tight games where a little bit of magic could be the difference.
“When Tommo is on it, it’s massive for us. He is a big miss when he is not playing, but the most important thing is when we do get him back he is fully fit and can change the game for us.”
The Bluebirds will have to find a match-winner from a different source this weekend, though, as the Welsh capital city club bid to register their first win of the season.
