Hudson County Baseball Tournament first round recap: Deodat, Almuete power McNair

Kaysan Deodat was 2-for-2 with two walks, four RBI and two runs scored as 10th-seeded McNair rolled to a 21-5 victory over 15th-seeded Lincoln, in five innings, in the first round of the Hudson County Tournament at Franco Field in Jersey City.

Chris Almuete went 2-for-3 with a walk and four RBI, while Raymond Guerrero scored four runs, going 1-for-1 with two walks, a hit by pitch, a RBI and two stolen bases for McNair (10-4), which broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it 8-1.Leonard Malott was 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs, two RBI and five stolen bases, while Christian DeGuzman went 1-for-3 with two walks, three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases. Deodat picked the win, striking out six in five innings.

McNair plays plays seventh-seeded Hudson Catholic in the second round on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Park.

Timothy Hilliard was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI for Lincoln (7-8), while Jimmy Ruiz and Yoelbis Marmol each went 1-for-2 with a hit by pitch and two runs scored.

Kearny 8, Snyder 1

Joseph Drefko struck out a career-high 10 as he allowed just one run, five hits and no walks to lead 11th-seeded Kearny to an 8-1 victory over 14th-seeeded Snyder in Kearny.

William McChesney was 3-for-4 with a run, RBI, triple and double, while Victor Hanson went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two doubles for Kearny (3-17). Jayden Diaz was 1-for-2 with two RBI, a run and a stolen base, Luis Rodriguez scored two runs, and both Bryan Diaz and Tryton Witt added a run and a RBI.

Kearny plays sixth-seeded Memorial in the second round on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Snyder falls to 5-10.

Dickinson 15, Harrison 14

Irvin Espejo hit two home runs, going 3-for-4 with a walk, three runs and three RBI as ninth-seeded Dickinson scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat 16th-seeded Harrison, 15-14, in Jersey City.

Dickinson (8-9) trailed 12-7 midway through the fifth inning, but rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth, then one in the sixth and seventh to tie it at 12 and force extra innings.

Ricardo Capella was 3-for-4 with a walk, four runs, two RBI and four stolen bases for Dickinson, which had scored just one run the previous four games. Eddy Fernandez went 2-for-2 with two walks, six stolen bases and three runs scored and Roniel Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Gabriel Rivera scored two runs and Dev Patel added two RBI.

Dickinson moves on to play eighth-seeded North Bergen in the second round on Saturday at 10 a.m.

One day removed from scoring 25 runs in the play-in round Harrison (1-14) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed until the final at-bat of the game.
