Howard’s gun reforms ‘have worked’ 25 years on

Bridget McKenzie #BridgetMcKenzie

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie says John Howard’s gun reforms following the Port Arthur massacre have worked as nothing like it has occurred since. The massacre, on this day 25 years ago, was the worst on record at the time. “We had the National Firearms Agreement come into force 25 years ago, and it’s worked – we haven’t seen an event like that again despite millions of Australians enjoying hunting and shooting sports,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News. “As a turning point for our nation it was significant, and I think it’s important that we reflect and remember those that lost their lives.”
