  • (1) Novak Djokovic vs. (4) Jannik Sinner (10:30 p.m., Thursday)

Another year in Melbourne, another year where Djokovic is on his way to another Australian Open title. Sure, the world No. 1 still needs to win two more matches, and had a small hiccup against American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals, but this is the Serbian’s tournament. No man has won more championships in Melbourne, or any major for that matter, and there is a good reason why.

This is shaping up to be Sinner’s best performance at a Grand Slam tournament. Not just because this is just his second major semifinal appearance, but also because has not lost a set. Even in his last two matches, when he faced No. 16 Karen Khachanov and No. 5 Andrey Rublev, Sinner played unfazed, moving within a win of his first championship match appearance.

Unfortunately for Sinner, his record against Djokovic, especially in major competition, is not good. Though the Italian earned a split with the Joker last November during the ATP World Tour Finals, he has lost twice to Djokovic in the last two Wimbledon tournaments, including a straight-sets dismantling last year in the semis.

Djokovic is 4-1, all-time, against Sinner.

    (3) Daniil Medvedev vs. (6) Alexander Zverev (3:30 a.m., Friday)

Both Medvedev and Zverev had to knock off talented players to get to this point.

Zverev is coming off beating the reigning Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz, the second-ranked player in the world in four sets.

Medvedev had an easy time against former major semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in the third round before going the distance in the quarterfinals with Hubert Hurkacz.

Both have admittedly had bumpy roads to the semis, but it is going to be a hard-hitting matchup between the Russian and German players.

This is Zverev’s second semifinal in Australia, and first since 2020, while Medvedev has made it to the final match twice, losing to Djokovic in 2021 and Rafael Nadal in 2022.

Medvedev is 11-7 against Zverev all-time, including six meetings in 2023, where Zverev won five of six matches.
