How Ex-Everton Star Joined Inter Milan 24 Hours After Playing Final Match For Ajax | OneFootball

Midfielder Davy Klaassen signed his contract with Inter Milan barely 24 hours after playing in an Ajax shirt.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the extremely abrupt nature of the Dutchman’s whirlwind deadline day transfer to the Nerazzurri.
It would be no exaggeration to say that Klaasen joining Inter was a transfer that came almost out of nowhere.
Reportedly, Inter made contact with the 30-year-old’s representatives on Tuesday for the first time.
The Nerazzurri kept these talks under wraps. But they had to work very quickly to get the deal over the line in time for yesterday’s transfer deadline.
Klaassen made the trip to Milano yesterday to undergo his medicals.
Then Ajax sent through all the necessary paperwork, and the former Everton and Werder Bremen man was able to sign his contract. Inter and Klaassen put pen to paper in time to beat the deadline.
To underline just how rapid Klaassen’s move to Inter was, the Gazzetta note that he had been on the pitch in an Ajax shirt just 24 hours earlier.
The Dutchmna began this season as an Ajax. And there was not necessarily any indication that this wouldn’t be the case.
Klaassen had in fact rejected some transfer interest.
Al-Ettifaq had attempted to make the Ajax midfielder the latest big money signing in the Saudi Pro League. He turned down their bid.
But the eleventh-hour interest from the Nerazzurri was enough to convince Klaassen to leave Ajax.
The 30-year-old has already played a few matches for the Dutch giants this season already.
Klaassen came off the bench to score in a 2-2 Eredivisie draw against Excelsior.
And he was also a substitute during a 4-1 win over Ludogorets Razgard in Europa League qualification.
And on Thursday, Ajax played the second leg of that match against Ludogorets. They lost 0-1, but nevertheless secured their place in the Europa League on aggregate.
Klaasen once again played in that match, as a substitute.
But afterwards, the Dutchman had little time to do anything else as an Ajax player.
Klaassen will have taken his post-match shower, and then virtually right away, embarked on his move to Inter.
