How does Rangers rookie Evan Carter feel about batting ninth?

Rangers #Rangers

Rangers rookie outfielder Evan Carter recently joined Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket [KTCK-AM] to discuss his spot in the batting order and more.

Highlights have been edited, for clarity.

Most people don’t project you to bat at the bottom of the order forever, so what has it been like to do that for the Rangers?

Carter: “I’m just kind of approaching it as kind of a similar leadoff spot that I’ve always done in the past. That’s kind of my role right now, is just to get on base for Marcus (Semien) and Corey (Seager) to come around and knock you in. So that’s kind of like a leadoff spot for me at the bottom of the lineup. So I’m just trying to approach it the same way.”

How has it been being in the same room as Bruce Bochy?

Carter: “He’s definitely got a history of winning and that’s somebody that you want to be behind and learn from. He’s got a really good legacy. So that’s something that you want to copy for yourself and be around as much as possible.”

Who would you consider to be the vocal leader in the room?

Carter: “I think there’s a lot of really good personalities in the locker room. I wouldn’t necessarily say somebody would give a speech or anything, but there’s definitely Brad Miller, who has been kind of putting me under his wing and pointing me in the right direction. Robbie Grossman. A lot of veteran guys in there who have been there done that and it’s really great for the younger players.”

How is the locker room? Are people tight or lose with a close playoff race?

Carter: “I don’t necessarily know what the locker room was like before I got here, and I haven’t really been here all that long either. So if it’s different than what it was before, I wouldn’t know but right now I’m having a great time. And so is everybody else. It’s just it’s fun to show up and play. It’s fun to be in this spot right now. This is what you worked the whole year for. It’s just to have an opportunity to make the playoffs and you know, win a World Series.”
