A night after falling one assist shy of becoming the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, LaMelo Ball accomplished the feat with room to spare.
Ball finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists Saturday for the Charlotte Hornets to become the youngest player ever with a triple-double at 19 years, 140 days. Markelle Fultz set the previous mark at 19 years, 317 days when he had a triple-double for the Philadelphia 76ers on April 11, 2018.
Ball shot 9-of-13 from the field overall and 3-of-5 on 3-pointers in 31 minutes off the bench in Charlotte’s 113-105 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The third overall pick in November’s draft, Ball has yet to start a game so far this season for the Hornets, but he has been one of their top reserves. In 10 games, Ball is averaging 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 24.9 minutes.

The rookie point guard nearly recorded his first triple-double Friday. Ball had 12 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a 118-110 win over his older brother Lonzo and the New Orleans Pelicans.
Lonzo Ball held the mark for youngest triple-double in NBA history before Fultz. Ball was 20 years, 15 days when he had a triple-double on Nov. 11, 2017 for the Los Angeles Lakers, eclipsing LeBron James by four days.
