TOMS RIVER – Home decor discount retailer Homesense, a key tenant in Ocean County Mall’s renovation, is set to open on Thursday.

The Toms River store will be Homesense’s third in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The others are in Ocean Township and Manalapan.

Homesense now joins LA Fitness, Five Below, Ulta Beauty, and Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea, which also have opened. Turning Point, the breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant, is on the way.

They are part of a renovation at Ocean County Mall that began after Sears closed in 2018. Mall owner Simon demolished the vacant Sears store and built a “lifestyle center.”

The store is owned by The TJX Companies, the parent company of HomeGoods, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx.

Homesense carries furniture, rugs, lighting, including hanging chandeliers, and includes a “general store” that features products from hardware to storage. Customers also will be able to buy seasonal items, including outdoor furniture, garden and entertaining items, and holiday decor.

“Homesense brings customers even more of what we know they love — beautiful, quality home merchandise at incredible values,” said John Ricciuti, president of HomeGoods and Homesense, in a statement.

The store will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday. All stores have updated health and wellness procedures, including required face coverings in the store, enhanced cleaning protocols, frequently cleaned carts, and protective shields at registers.
