Amid the plethora of stars returning for Thursday night’s Neighbours finale, two big cameos were kept tightly under wraps: London-based Aussies Holly Valance and Natalie Imbruglia united to film one short, final scene on the soap together.
Valance, 39, and Imbruglia, 47, reprised their Neighbours roles for a one-minute scene that showed their characters bumping into each other and comparing stories about their time on Ramsay St.
It marked the stars’ first appearance on the soap together, with Imbruglia playing Beth Brennan on Neighbours from 1992 to 1994, and Valance playing Flick Scully from 1999 to 2002.
The pair filmed their scene together in London, where they both now live.
Both went on to enjoy successful musical careers after Neighbours, with Imbruglia releasing six albums including the worldwide smash Left of the Middle. Valance’s musical career burned bright but briefly, with a string of hit singles in the early noughties before she largely turned her back on performing.
Fellow musical success stories Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan also reprised their roles as Scott and Charlene for the finale – but while their return formed a key part of Ten’s publicity for the TV event, Valance and Imbruglia’s cameos were kept under wraps and only rumoured about.
While Imbruglia still releases music and tours – her most recent album was last year’s Firebird – Valance has largely kept a low public profile since marrying billionaire property developer Nick Candy in 2012. She has popped up in some surprising places – like former US President Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate in April, where she and Candy cosied up for a meet-and-greet with the man himself. More recently, the couple were photographed attending the UK Conservative Party’s Summer Ball.
Other former Neighbours stars returning to see off the soap after 37 years and 8903 episodes included Guy Pearce, Peter O’ Brien, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Olympia Valance, Ian Smith, Daniel MacPherson and many more.
