Those who knew Comrie took to social media to mourn the athlete upon hearing about his unexpected death.
Hockey player Mike McKenna, who skated with Comrie for Syracuse, mourned the athlete’s death. “Awful news of Adam Comrie’s passing. We played together with @SyracuseCrunch and kept in touch ever since. Hockey never defined him despite being a very talented player. I admired that about Adam. 30 years young. Too soon,” he tweeted.
Bob Rotruck, the radio broadcaster for Lehigh Valley, was shocked by Comrie’s untimely death. “Oh wow. AHL announces that Adam Comrie has passed away at 30 years old. I’m stunned. Comrie spent parts of 3 seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms playing 82 games scoring 15 goals,” he tweeted. “Hard-shooting D-Man had a hat trick at WBS on 4/8/2016. A nice guy & hard-working player.”
Rotruck added: “My condolences and sympathies to his friends and family and all who knew him.”
Spencer Davidson, the Sports Director at WKTV in Utica, New York, was stunned by the news. “Wow, stunned…former [Utica Comets] defenseman Adam Comrie has passed away in a motorcycle accident, according to translation. Just 30 years old, gut-wrenching. RIP Adam, thoughts with his family, friends, and hockey community he touched,” he tweeted. “…Like all players I have come across, was a genuine, good guy. Just awful, awful news.”
Reading Royals Players Fondly Remembered Comrie
Comrie, who played with the Reading Royals for parts of four seasons, was beloved by his teammates.
“He was eccentric, that’s for sure,” Comrie’s former Royals coach and teammate Kirk MacDonald told Reading Eagle. “Some guys like that rub people the wrong way. He was the opposite. He would do stuff and you’d laugh. What a beauty. You could tell he was having a good time.”
Nick Luukko, who played two seasons with Comrie, remembered him for his shot. “He kind of did it all,” Luukko told the outlet. “He was a freak athlete. He skated really well. He was physical, tough, stuck up for his teammates. He probably had the best shot of anyone I’ve ever played with. He scored some unbelievable goals.”
