Highsnobiety Vows To Never Cover Tory Lanez Again After ‘Disgraceful’ and ‘Toxic’ Album Release

You’ll never see Tory Lanez’s name on Highsnobiety again after his latest album release. The entertainment news outlet claimed Lanez’s album Daystar was the “most toxic album of the year.”
Lanez was accused of shooting musician Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. On the album, though, he denied her claim in a way Highsnobiety and most Twitter users found offensive.
“However, rather than publicly apologizing to Megan or addressing the issue, he released an album instead, using the media attention from the shooting to promote his work,” the outlet posted on Instagram.
There were even more issues to be taken with Lanez’s decision, though. Not only did his self-promotion come the same week as Breonna Taylor’s lack of justice, but Highsnobiety equated his lyrics to bringing down another Black woman: Megan Thee Stallion.

This is the last time we will cover Tory Lanez.â â The rapper just added to his list of disgraceful behavior by dropping the most toxic album of the year. He recently became an music industry pariah after Megan Thee Stallion revealed that he shot her during an incident that led to his arrest on July 12. However, rather than publicly apologizing to Megan or addressing the issue, he released an album instead, using the media attention from the shooting to promote his work. â â Lanez’s moves are particularly sickening considering the proximity to this week’s ruling on the murder of Breonna Taylor. In 1962, Malcolm X said that “the most disrespected person in America is the black woman.” Taylor’s memory has been used to sell magazines, get clicks, and win political favor. And yet, the police officers responsible for her death were not brought to justice. â â Lanez has used the same logic to promote his album, exploiting the trauma enacted on Black women for financial and cultural gain, while refusing to protect them or acknowledge their culpability. They argued Taylor was used to monetize magazine covers, products, personal images and more after her death. Now, Megan Thee Stallion’s claims of assault seem to be doing the same: bringing attention and potential income to her alleged assailant.
“Lanez has used the same logic to promote his album, exploiting the trauma enacted on Black women for financial and cultural gain, while refusing to protect them or acknowledge their culpability,” they wrote. “And that’s why you’ll never see him on our website or social platforms again.”
In addition to directly addressing Megan Thee Stallion and the shooting claims across the album, Lanez spoke of Black women in general. “I refuse to be the poster boy for Black women I’m protecting / My momma Black, my sister Black, my baby momma Black / So how the f— I’m unaffected? / Black women fueled my career for years, so don’t make me some type of tier of unperfection,” the song “What’s Kulture??” includes.
Other lines, which many Twitter users and publications considered aggressive, seem to slam the “WAP” singer directly. “How the f*** you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons?/ How the f*** your team is trying to pay me in some whole millions?” lyrics in “Money Over Fallouts” said.
Other female celebrities make appearances on the album, too. Lanez’s riff with artist JoJo returns in lyrics which claim she’s attempting to remove him from their song together, “Comeback.” He also claims to have a crush on Kylie Jenner during the album.
Megan Thee Stallion was shot on July 12. She didn’t name Lanez as the shooter until August. In an Instagram story video, the musician revealed she didn’t want to get Lanez in additional trouble, as after the shooting, he was arrested for having a concealed weapon. Lanez denied being the shooter in a statement from his rep.
