“High-end player”: Carlton provides update on luckless defender
Carlton #Carlton
Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd says Caleb Marchbank is a couple of weeks away from a potential AFL return.
Marchbank hasn’t played a senior game since Round 16 2019 due to neck and knee injuries. The 25-year-old sustained a season-ending ACL injury in the VFL last April.
The luckless defender played three quarters in his return game via the VFL on May 7, collecting 20 disposals and taking five marks in Carlton’s seven-point loss to Frankston.
Dermott Brereton asked Lloyd on AFL Nation: “I have seen him at close quarters, Caleb Marchbank, he’s a tremendous player. Is he a couple of weeks away, is he?”

“He is. He played three quarters at Frankston in the VFL,” the Blues footy boss said in response.
“The VFL had a bye the weekend just gone, so he’ll play on Sunday against Sandringham and play a full game and then he’ll start building up towards senior footy.
“He’s a high-end player. He’s had some injury troubles, but we’d like to see him come back in soon.”
Marchbank has played 48 career games – 7 with GWS and 41 with Carlton – since making his AFL debut in 2015.
The ex-Giant comes out of contract at the end of the season.
