Hibs player ratings vs Hearts as Aiden McGeady impresses amid Scottish Cup derby defeat

Hibs #Hibs

Hibs are out of the Scottish Cup after derby day disappointment led to a 3-0 defeat at Easter Road to Hearts.

Lee Johnson’s side started on the front foot and after six minutes Josh Campbell’s flick smacked the post. But against the run of play Josh Ginnelly emphatically smashed Hearts in to the lead as Hibs couldn’t clear their lines in the box. Back and forth both sides went in the first half with Campbell seeing a half chance from a header go wide while Michael Smith forced a save from David Marshall before the break.

In the second half, the home side had the better of the chances again with Elie Youan causing the Jambos defence problems before Lawrence Shankland made history by smashing home and equalling the record of John Robertson as the first Hearts player since to net 20 goals in a season. Tobby Sibbick then netted a stunning individual goal to seal yet another 3-0 derby win for the Gorgie.

David Marshall – 5

A good save from Smith but could do little about two goals. Couldn’t come out to close down Sibbick.

Marijan Cabraja – 5

A few deliveries caused a threat but didn’t settle in to game well.

Ryan Porteous – 6

A potential last derby for the defender and had ups and downs throughout.

Chris Cadden – 7

A tough battle with McKay. But showed his aggression and pace well. Didn’t get enough support for second goal to defend.

Rocky Bushiri – 5

A few misplaced passes but also showed his strength. Perhaps should have closed down Shankland better.

James Jeggo – 5

A few nervy moments in a baptism of fire. Settled in better in the second.

Josh Campbell – 6

Off the post early on. Faced a lot of pressure and passed up another half chance. Was always involved but probably would feel he should have scored.

Aiden McGeady – 7

Troubling Hearts with his wide play but was often doubled up on. A bright spark for Hibs but struggled to make an impact in the second half.

Lewis Stevenson – 5

Caught under an aerial challenge for the first goal. Always in a battle.

Elie Youan – 7

A fast start and carried a threat. His link-up between the lines was strong and he was involved in an attacking sense.

Kevin Nisbet – 6

Good link-up early on. Found chances few and far between in the 90 minutes but battled well.

Subs:

Harry McKirdy – 3

Saw out the final 20.

Ewan Henderson – 1

On for the final stages.

Paul Hanlon – 1

Played seconds.
