Hibs have hit out at a penalty awarded against them by VAR at the end of the first half in their match with Aberdeen.

The referee-assisting technology has brought controversy to the Scottish Premiership since its introduction earlier this month and its latest episode has occurred at Pittodrie. As Dons forward Luis Lopes burst through on goal, he collided with Hibees goalkeeper David Marshall, with the situation looking dead with an offside flag raised.

After a lengthy VAR check, eventually it was decided than Ryan Porteous had played the Aberdeen attacker onside and that a decision needed to be made on whether Marshall made contact with his man or not. There was enough in it for referee David Munro to be beckoned over to the monitor for closer inspection by those at Clydesdale House, with the whistler then deeming the Hibs leader was guilty of the crime.

It has angered the Easter Road club, who responded to the incident with a poser: ‘Your guess is as good as ours?’

If that wasn’t enough drama, Bojan Miovski missed the initial chance from 12 yards but it was pulled back when the veteran goalkeeper came off his line too early.

He was clinical with his second as the forward netted eight minutes into stoppage time in a chaotic end to the first half at Pittodrie. This comes where Tony Watt’s red card in a Dundee United loss to Motherwell was overturned, after VAR initially decided his tackle on Sean Goss was worthy of dismissal.
