‘He’s a Big Improvement on Me’: Warren Buffett Praises Heir Apparent Greg Abel

Warren Buffett said Greg Abel, his future successor at Berkshire Hathaway, is already doing much of the work to run the company.
“They haven’t seen me at BNSF Railway in 10, 12 years, or something like that,” Mr. Buffett said in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, referring to one of Berkshire’s many subsidiaries. “Greg is there. He understands each of our businesses.”
Mr. Abel is chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, as well as the head of all non-insurance operations at Berkshire. He has taken on a more public-facing role in recent years, appearing alongside Mr. Buffett on stage at Berkshire’s annual meeting in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and accompanying Mr. Buffett on his trip to Japan this week.
