Heartbreaking final post by Jay Briscoe shows him celebrating with brother Mark hours before ROH champ’s tragic death

RING of Honor star Jay Briscoe shared a now heartbreaking photo of him and his brother hours before his death was announced.

Jay, real name Jamin Pugh, posted the picture to commemorate the brothers’ historic 13th reign as Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions.

“New hat,” read the caption of the post, featuring Jay donning a hat with “13 X” in a bold font.

Mark Briscoe, real name Mark Pugh, is seen eating cookies beside him.

Hours later, Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan shared that Jay had passed away at the age of 38.

“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today,” wrote Khan.

According to Khan, the Briscoe brothers “dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day.”

“We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.”

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer, Jay died in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware on Tuesday, January 17.

The cause of his death has yet to be officially confirmed.

ABC affiliate WMDT reported that a fatal crash in Laurel took two lives on Tuesday night.

“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the tragic passing of Jamin Pugh, known to wrestling fans around the world as Jay Briscoe,” read a tweet from ROH.

“Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his fans.”

The wrestling community has shared tributes celebrating Jay’s life.

All Elite Wrestling backstage interviewer Renee Paquette wrote: “Devastating news. My heart breaks for Jay Briscoe’s family.”

“RIP to the homie Jay Briscoe,” wrote Jimmy and Jey Uso, a fellow tag team consisting of two brothers and the current Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

“Condolences to the [sic] your family. Rest in paradise uso.”

Impact Wrestling star Josh Alexander added: “One of the nicest, funniest, genuine and talented men I’ve ever met. All we ever talked about was our families. RIP Jay Briscoe.”

WWE NXT commentators Vic Joseph and Booker T mentioned Jay’s death on-air.

“Booker, we were just informed of some tragic news inside the wrestling community that Jay Briscoe has passed away,” said Joseph.

“We wanna take this moment to send our condolences to his friends and his family.”

WWE Hall of Fame and Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels wrote on Twitter: “On behalf of the @WWENXT community, I would like to express our condolences to the Briscoe family for their loss.”
