Unai Emery wasn’t the most popular man in north London during his time at Arsenal.
The Spaniard had a tough 18 months at the Emirates as he was tasked with the huge job of replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for Emery at Arsenal, and fans did begin to turn on him.
However, Emery did form a strong bond with a lot of his players, and speaking to TNT Sports, Bukayo Saka has now opened up on what he really thought of the gaffer.
Saka says that he still really likes Emery, claiming that he’s a really nice man and that he actually tries to thank him for everything he did whenever Arsenal play against Aston Villa these days.

The youngster spoke about his former manager.
“I can never forget him, he’s the one who gave me my debut, he gave me that moment and so many more appearances. I’m always so grateful to him. I’m really happy for him you know. I always make sure I say hello to him when I play against them and say thank you as well. He was a really nice man and a really nice coach as well and I really enjoyed my time under him,” Saka said.
What could’ve been
Arsenal have been brilliant under Mikel Arteta over the past few years, but we can’t help but wonder what may have happened if Emery stuck around.
Indeed, Emery is doing an incredible job at Aston Villa and if he was allowed to build this Arsenal team in his vision, perhaps they could be in an even stronger position than they’re in right now.
Emery wasn’t given the same amount of time Arteta has been given at Arsenal, and perhaps if he was, his legacy with the Gunners would be different.
