‘He looked like a Sunday league goalkeeper!’ – David de Gea commits bizarre error as he lets ball nutmeg him for ‘freakish’ Everton goal
De Gea #DeGea
David de Gea was at fault for a ‘freakish’ equaliser during Manchester United’s third round FA Cup tie against Everton as he let a pass through his legs.
The bizarre mistake eventually didn’t prove costly as United ran out 3-1 winners thanks to Antony, Marcus Rashford and an own-goal, but De Gea still had a moment to forget.

Coady did, though
Under-pressure Frank Lampard looked in serious trouble after going behind to an Antony goal with just three minutes played at Old Trafford.
However, the Chelsea legend then saw his side given a gift when De Gea bizarrely let Neal Maupay’s pull back through his legs.
The Frenchman had received the ball after some good work from summer signing Amadou Onana before he seemed to not get enough on a pass towards the penalty spot.
The ball was travelling harmlessly towards De Gea’s feet, but he managed to miscontrol it, allowing it through his legs for a grateful Conor Coady to bundle in.
“There didn’t seem to be too much danger but the ball nutmegged De Gea!” said talkSPORT commentator Jim Proudfoot. “It’s a freakish equalising goal!”
“It’s not one De Gea will want to see again as there appeared to be no danger.”

“The goalkeeper switches off!” added former Chelsea and Aston Villa midfielder Andy Townsend.
“They don’t think he [Maupay] can keep it in but he does. De Gea has got one hand on the post and Maupay somehow pops it between his legs.
“It’s really poor from De Gea, he looks like a Sunday league goalkeeper standing up leaning against the goal as the ball goes through his legs.”
Thankfully for De Gea, he managed to make that his only goal conceded of the night, as United put two past Jordan Pickford for a 3-1 win.
