Cristian Romero got away with not picking up his fourth red card of 2023 in Tottenham’s clash at Newcastle, says Gary Neville.
The Tottenham star planted his studs on Callum Wilson’s ankle as the Newcastle striker was picking himself up off the ground.

He was given a yellow card but, despite a VAR check, it wasn’t upgraded to a red.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville was baffled by the decision live on Sky Sports, saying: “He’s got away with it this time but one thing is for certain it’s something Spurs have got to do about it.”
Straight after the tackle, he said: “He is crazy.”
Fans on social media were convinced Romero should’ve been sent off, too.
“How on god’s green Earth has Romero got away with that?” one wrote on X.
A second said: “How on earth is that not a red for Romero? Mental.”
“The clearest red card you’ll ever see,” a third added.
Romero is one yellow away from a one-game suspension as he’s now on four so far this season as match week 16 comes to a close.

He’s already received three red cards in 2023.
His latest came in the 4-1 loss against Chelsea at the start of November.
Romero had conceded a penalty and got sent off for a high challenge on Argentina teammate Enzo Fernandez.
But despite the questions over the Argentinian’s booking, Tottenham sealed a convincing 4-1 victory over the Magpies on Sunday.
Destiny Udogie, Richarlison and Heung-min Son all got in on the act as Spurs won their first game in over a month.
