HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – Hastings Utilities responded to two separate power outages overnight that impacted customers in multiple areas of the city as well as the village of Juniata.
The first power outage happened around 7 p.m. Sunday, according to City of Hastings Public Information Officer LeAnne Doose.
She said that it lasted about five hours, which is longer than they typically see.
After some investigation, HU was able to determine that the outage was caused by an equipment failure of an underground wire.
Doose said those situations are harder to locate due to the problem being underground. Once the linemen found the source of the problem, they were able to reroute power to get people back online. Doose said that HU will be working to make the repairs of the underground wire during the day Monday.
Most of the customers impacted by the first outage were in the Pioneer Trail Flats region. She said most of those impacted were located east of Menards and extended northeast of Hastings.
The second outage happened around 4:30 a.m. Monday impacting a large portion of western Hastings and stretching into Juniata. She said that the majority of the power outages occurred along Crane Avenue and extending to the west.
Hastings Utilities is still looking into the cause of this outage but they were able to get power restored at 6:10 a.m.
“We really have some great folks working at Hastings Utilities. Even in the office, we develop relationships with the customers over time. We’re always very motivated when these things are taking place,” she said.
She added that they are grateful for everyone’s patience throughout these outages.
“We do what we can to inform,” Doose said. They know that everyone’s situation is different and so they want to make sure to share both the good and bad.
Customers are reminded as we approach the winter storm season, you should report outages directly with the power company. You should not call 911 unless it’s an emergency.
