Football star Harry Maguire’s wife Fern made an immediate show of her support to her husband after his gutting England performance.

The Manchester United defender suffered an embarrassing clanger during England’s match against Scotland at Hampden Park. He was dropped for the friendly but came on at half-time, looking to impress. However, things didn’t go to plan as he ended up scoring an own goal. Harry, 30, looked shocked after the blunder making it 2-1, but urged his team mates to “stay calm” before the travelling side went on to win 3-1.

During the match Harry was savagely booed by the home fans throughout his stint on the pitch, with Hampden Park erupting in cheers when he thumped the ball into the back of his own net.

England manager Gareth Southgate led the passionate defence of the defender after the full-time whistle blew saying: ‘It is a consequence of ridiculous treatment of him for a long period of time, frankly, and I think our fans recognised, “Ok there might be a bit of heat from our own supporters but we are not going to have it from others getting into him.”

Harry’s devoted wife Fern also showed her support after the match. She reposted Harry’s upload of pics of him during the match to her own Instagram Stories, with three red heart emojis. Harry’s original post said: “Enjoyable camp with the lads – always a pleasure representing my country. Everywhere they goooo.”

He was supported by his fans as well, as one person wrote: “Get that confidence back and you’ll be fine. Class is permanent.” Another added: “Unlucky own goal that’s all.” Someone else commented: “You’re a good player mate don’t let anyone tell u otherwise!! My goat.” A fourth praised: “Huge respect for you facing all this noise head on. A bit unlucky with the own goal. Aside from that, didn’t put a foot wrong. Let the haters hate. You’re handling it with huge professionalism and it’s admirable.”

The teenage sweethearts – who met when Maguire was playing for Sheffield United’s youth squad – married last June at the Chateau de Varennes in the south of France. Fern recently shared a post to celebrate their one year anniversary, writing: “1 year down, forever to go I love you with all my heart”. She regularly shares snaps of the couple’s two children and pictures of her supporting the England international.

Fern was just 16 when the pair first got together and Harry was 18. They have now been together over ten years. In 2018 they got engaged shortly after Valentine’s day, when Harry popped the question during a romantic getaway to Paris. Posting to Instagram after the engagement, Fern said: “On Saturday night, Harry made me the happiest girl in the world & asked me to marry him in the most perfect way.”

A year after their engagement, the football star revealed on Instagram that Fern had given birth to the couple’s first child, Lillie Saint Maguire, on April 3 2019. Their daughter was born exactly nine months after England beat Colombia on penalties at the World Cup. Just 13 months later they welcomed their second daughter Piper Rose in May 2020.
