England manager Gareth Southgate has instructed number two Steve Holland to travel to the Amex Stadium on Saturday where he’ll monitor Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

The centre-back was omitted from the Three Lions squad for their UEFA Nations League clashes with Iceland and Denmark earlier this month after being found guilty on three separate offences while on holiday in Greece.

Maguire has since successfully appealed the retrial and is due to appear in court in the near future, however, and Southgate appears keen to involve him in any future England setups.

The Daily Mail claims that Maguire will be Holland’s primary concern as he travels to the south coast to watch the Red Devils take on Brighton, however, the performance of Mason Greenwood will also no doubt be high on the agenda.

The young forward’s recent off-field antics have attracted unwanted publicity following a late-night escapade with Manchester City man Phil Foden while away with the England squad in Iceland. The pair were sent home shortly after flouting lockdown rules and have since publicly apologised.

As for Southgate he’ll be heading to Bramall Lane on Sunday to assess the performance of the recently capped Kalvin Phillips as his Leeds side take on Sheffield United.

The central midfielder struggled to impact proceedings as he was awarded his maiden Three Lions cap against Denmark, however, the England boss has by no means closed the door on any future international involvement for the Leeds man.

Southgate will round off the weekend with a trip to Manchester City to watch James Maddison’s Leicester take on Pep Guardiola’s side, before a Monday night visit to Anfield where he’ll no doubt be keen to see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain afforded some game time along with his England teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson.
