Harry Kane set to return to Tottenham training this week amid Manchester City transfer interest

Harry Kane is expected to return to training with Tottenham later this week after sitting out the first two days of his preseason schedule in a bid to force through his transfer to Manchester City.

Kane, who wants to leave Tottenham for Manchester City, was due to report to Hotspur Way on Monday for COVID-19 and fitness tests. As of Tuesday has not returned from his post-Euro 2020 break. So far there is no confirmed date but as things stand it is believed he will join up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad before the end of the week. There are just 12 days to go until Spurs begin their season, ironically at home to the very team their star striker wants to join.

City have so far made one offer for Kane, as first revealed by CBS Sports, a $139 million (£100 million) bid last month that was rejected by Tottenham, who are holding out for a far greater fee. Kane believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with chairman Daniel Levy that will allow him to leave in pursuit of the trophies he is yet to win at Spurs.

However his current club have little appetite to part ways with their talisman, a player who led the Premier League in goals and assists and who has been at the forefront of Tottenham’s best moments in recent years. With three years left to run on Kane’s contract, Spurs are well placed to rebuff any interest in the 28 year old.

Tottenham have not indicated a figure that would convince them to change their stance but it would require City to increase their bid by several tens of millions. With Pep Guardiola’s side in talks over a move for Jack Grealish that would be almost as expensive it remains to be seen whether there would be an appetite at the Etihad Stadium to smash their transfer record twice in one summer even though they have the financial means to do so.

Neither party has publicly addressed the questions over Kane’s future since Nuno Espirito Santo’s introductory press conference with the club, where the new head coach insisted he had “no doubts” that the vice captain would remain a Tottenham player.
