Harper Murray’s 12 kills lead No. 2 Nebraska volleyball to four-set win over Michigan State

Harper Murray had 12 kills, and Lindsay Krause added nine kills and two ace serves to help lead the Nebraska volleyball team to a four-set win against Michigan State on Friday in East Lansing, Mich.

After intermission, Nebraska played much better in the 25-23, 16-25, 25-15, 25-11 win.

Nebraska improved to 14-0 overall, 5-0 in the Big Ten and ran its winning streak in the head-to-head series to 15 straight.

Freshman outside hitter Taylah Holdem led Michigan State with 16 kills, but none of her teammates had more than six kills.

Nebraska finished with a .168 hitting percentage, its second-lowest of the season. Michigan State hit .088.

Lexi Rodriguez led the Huskers with 13 digs. Bekka Allick had four blocks.

In the first set, Nebraska needed a significant comeback to win the first set 25-23. The Huskers ended the set with a 4-0 run.

Early in the set Nebraska was hitting out, serving out and not getting blocks, allowing Michigan State to take 20-15 lead.

But Nebraska didn’t shut it down, and won 10 of the final 13 points. Bergen Reilly had a key serving run late in the set. Beason had five kills in the set, including Nebraska’s final three kills in the set.

In the second set, Nebraska got so far behind that a comeback was unlikely. The Huskers never held a lead in the set and had a negative hitting percentage for the set. The Huskers’ 16 points were their fewest in a set this season.

The third set started much differently, with Nebraska using tough serves to put major pressure on the Spartans. Nebraska led 11-3. The Huskers had kills on six of its first nine attempts of the set, while Michigan State had just one kill on 11 tries. Nebraska won the set 25-15 for a 2-1 match lead.

On Saturday, Nebraska makes the short trip to play at Michigan (3-11, 1-4) at 7:30 p.m. The match is on BTN.

It will be a matchup of sisters, with Murray and her older sister, Kendall, the Michigan outside hitter who leads the Wolverines in kills and ace serves this season.
