Harper Creek’s Brayden Bess in the Enquirer Athlete of the Week winner for week of May 6.
The fans have spoken.
The winner of the latest Enquirer Athlete of the Week fan poll is Brayden Bess of the Harper Creek baseball team.
Fans got behind Bess to help him edge fellow Athlete of the Week finalists Kaylynn Jones, Addie Waito and Kennedy Halverson. Bess received 56% of the vote by the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Thanks to his fans, he will receive an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt.
Harper Creek took care of business on its home field, winning the Harper Creek Invitational in baseball on Saturday. The Beavers swept a Buchanan team that was coming in as defending state champs in Division 3. Harper Creek opened with a 3-0 win as Brayden Bess was dominant, striking out 11 and scattering five hits over six innings.

“Brayden’s been an absolute bulldog on the mound. He’s our leader in the dugout and the clubhouse. We go as he goes,” Harper Creek baseball coach David Wuis said.
