Happy Valley viewers have called for Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran to win ‘all the awards’ at this year’s Baftas for their performance in Sunday night’s episode of the BBC drama.

Sarah, 58, and Siobhan, 56, starred in dramatic scenes that saw Sarah’s character Catherine Cawood confront her sister Clare, played by Siobhan, for taking her grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah) to visit his evil father Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) in prison behind her back.

Following their tense argument, viewers were left in tears after Catherine exited the cafe and saw a vision of her late daughter Becky on the ground, causing her to scream and sob silently.

Fans of the show took to social media to praise the pair for their performance, including one calling Sarah ‘one of the best [actresses] of all time.’

Another added: ‘Good God: #SarahLancashire is absolutely phenomenal in this: it’s like a super power.’

Meanwhile, another Twitter user said: ‘Every performance of Sarah Lancashire’s is a masterclass. She just something you can’t teach and whatever that is she has it in spades.’

An additional fan said: ‘I feel sorry for people working with Sarah Lancashire. She acts everybody else off the screen – beyond wonderful.’
