The first day of spring begins Saturday at 5:37 a.m.

The Vernal Equinox or Spring Equinox is the closest thing we will get to equal hours sunshine and dark. Central Virginia will get just over 12 hours of sunshine and just under 12 hours of the night.

Come this spring, we can expect above-average temperatures as a big shift in the weather pattern is likely.

By mid-next week, Roanoke, Danville and Lynchburg will be well above average and while there will be cooler snaps, it appears we will have generally above-average temperatures.

For reference, the normal high temperature to start off spring in Lynchburg is near 60 and the normal low is in the mid-30s. By the end of spring, these temperatures will rise by around 15 degrees.
