Happy schools

Happy Friyay #HappyFriyay

Sustaining happy learning spaces and practices needs system-wide approaches. UNESCO supports policy-makers to re-imagine education systems from the happiness lens, considering the people, processes, places, and principles that make going to school a happy and productive experience for all.

What we are doing:

  • Building on the Asia-Pacific experiences on the regional happy schools project, developing a Global happy schools framework focusing on the systemic approach to happiness in and for education;
  • Partnering with emerging champion countries and creating a community of practice for mutual learning and partnership to ensure positive teaching and learning for better learning;
  • Organizing a webinar series on happiness in and for learning bringing together experts, policy makers, school principals, students and parents;
  • Preparing a global report on happy schools, taking stock of the evidence, perspectives of teachers and learners, promising practices, and challenges.
  • In the future, UNESCO aims to engage more countries to develop a national happy schools framework. It will support policy-makers and administrators to develop, implement, and monitor policies and programmes to enhance happiness in schools to improve learning.

    UNESCO will continue to influence the global understanding of what makes a quality education by recognizing the importance of happiness in and for learning, leading to changes in education policies, curricula, pedagogy, assessments, and school environments.
