Happy birthday to OSU wrestling coach John Smith: Here’s what OSU legends say about his impact

“I don’t believe there is anyone more deserving of this honor than coach John Smith. He has been a blessing in my life, not only from an athlete’s standpoint, but life as a man outside wrestling. He didn’t want the best for you just as a wrestler, but as a person in general. (He) inspires me to not only chase the dream of gold, but to one day try to be the best person, dad, competitor, friend, husband, etc. that I can possibly be. He’s a one-of-a-kind person and the freaking goat. Period.”

Oliver was a two-time national champion and four-time All-American at OSU during 2010-2013 before becoming a member of the U.S. National Wrestling Team.
