On this day 27 years ago, one of the biggest K-pop idols in history was born. BTS’ J-Hope, who was born on Feb. 18, 1994, in Gwangju, South Korea, is turning 27 years old (28 in Korean age) this Thursday.
To celebrate the BTS rapper, dancer and songwriter’s special day, here are 18 facts about J-Hope that every Army should know:
1. J-Hope’s real name is Jung Ho-seok. Before entering the music scene with BTS, however, he considered using “Smile-Hoya” as his stage name, according to the Korea Herald.
2. He likes melodramatic movies and is an avid fan of music. The rapper-dancer has also revealed that he very much enjoys window shopping.
3. Dancing is a big part of his life. J-Hope attended classes at Gwangju Music Academy, which is the same place TVXQ’s Yunho, Big Bang’s Seungri, and 2NE1’s Minzy all trained, according to BTS’ Japanese Official Fanclub Magazine. Before his debut, he was also a member of a street dance team called Neuron.
4. He is also known as “Manager Jung” because he plays a key role in choreographing the dances for BTS’ songs. His favorite BTS choreography includes that of “Save Me” and “DNA.”
5. J-Hope’s father taught literature at the high school he went to in his hometown in Gwangju. The rapper also has one older sister named Jung Daewon, with whom he is very close.
6. The K-pop idol has shared that his ideal woman is someone who is considerate and is great at cooking. He also revealed that he wants his future girlfriend to call him cute names like “Baby” or “Baby Hope.”
7. J-Hope is close to all the other members of BTS but shares an intimate connection with co-member Suga, whom he reportedly considers one of his best friends, according to Somag News.
8. J-Hope studied at Global Cyber University, where he specialized in sound engineering. The South Korean star wishes to be a producer and arranger in the future.
9. The BTS dancer’s Myers-Briggs personality type is ESFJ, which is defined by Extraverted, Observant, Feeling and Judging traits.
10. He has a male, white and brown shih tzu dog named Mickey, who lives with J-Hope’s family.
11. J-Hope is the only member of BTS who does not have any piercings. The rapper shared that he has a fear of needles.
12. He loves food, but he especially likes traditional Korean foods such as kimchi.
13. J-Hope once left BTS before their debut because he was going through a rough patch during their trainee days. Luckily, his co-members persuaded him to return, and they made their official debut as BTS in 2013.
14. J-Hope disliked math the most at school.
15. One of J-Hope’s crushes is singer Tinashe, and he has expressed his wish to collaborate with her one day multiple times.
16. The track “Mama” from BTS’ 2016 album “Wings,” which J-Hope co-wrote with Primary and Pdogg, is dedicated to his mother and is his way of expressing gratitude to her for her love and support.
17. Whenever BTS goes out during their free time, they would usually go to amusement parks, and J-Hope’s favorite place is the carousel.
18. His ideal date would be walking by the beach with a special someone while holding hands.
