Witches, vampires and pirates can rejoice!

Despite the initial threat of rain, forecasters say it appears temperatures will be ideal for Halloween in New Jersey on Monday.

“There is a little system that’s coming in from the west tomorrow, but rain chances, they really don’t look good,” Michael Silva, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told NJ Advance Media on Sunday morning. “If anything, if we do get any rain, it probably won’t come in until after more towards the evening hours and that rain will mostly be light during the prime trick or treat hours.”

Parts of Central Jersey, including Mercer, Middlesex and inland Monmouth counties, saw the chilliest weather between Saturday night and Sunday morning, the latest forecast indicates.

Temperatures are expected to peak between 62 and 63 degrees early in the day Sunday and dip into the mid- to upper-40s heading into Sunday night, Silva said. It may be warmer along the coast late Sunday, he added.

On Monday as children journey out to fill pumpkins and bags with candy, temperatures will range from 62 to 65 degrees in the northern half of the state and 65 to 67 degrees in the southern half, Silva said.

“It looks like any of the heavier rain should hold off until the overnight hours late Monday night into Tuesday morning,” Silva said.

According to the National Weather Service, as of Sunday morning it appears some areas will have a higher chance of rain than others on Monday: between 10% in Toms River to 30% in Reading. Silva said many areas will likely see little to no chance of precipitation.

“Even an umbrella may be overkill through 8 p.m.” on Monday evening, the agency’s Mount Holly office said.

At this time of year, the southern half of New Jersey typically sees temperatures in the low 60s and the northern half at about 60 degrees — with lows hovering close to the 40s, according to experts.

“So our temperatures tomorrow are pretty much right around normal. Maybe the low temperatures Monday night will end up being a little bit warmer than normal,” Silva said.

As for Wednesday, drier weather than the Garden State usually sees in the fall is currently expected on a partly cloudy day with highs near 69 and lows around 50.
