Hackensack Man Arrested For Aggravated Assault With Boxcutter

Hackensack, NJ – On  Monday, January 2, 2023, Hackensack Police Department arrested Hackensack resident Jermaine Frye on several criminal counts related to an aggravated assault investigation.

Officers Panagiotis Seretis, Paula Luppino, Dane Marble, and Sgt. Sean Briggs responded to a complaint of a man brandishing a knife in the vicinity of Hudson Street and Broadway in Hackensack. A 61-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman from Hackensack were found to have argued with Frye in the middle of the street, according to the initial investigation. Frye attacked the male and female while using a box cutter-style knife during the argument. While the female sustained a puncture wound to her torso, the male sustained a laceration to one of his extremities. Both victims were sent to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injury treatment. Without incident, Frye was taken into custody there, and the box-cutter-style weapon was found.

According to a press release distributed by Hackensack Police Department, criminal charges against Jermaine Frye included aggravated assault (second-degree crime), aggravated assault (third-degree crime), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (third-degree crime), and unlawful possession of a weapon (second-degree crime) (fourth-degree crime). The defendant is assumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Frye will make his initial appearance at Central Judicial before being taken to the Bergen County Jail on a warrant.
