Gwen Stefani Says 16-Year-Old ‘Voice’ Singer Lauren Frihauf Is Her ‘Dream’ Contestant

The “old gang” is back together for season 19 of The Voice, with Gwen Stefani returning as one of the four coaches along with Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. But the “Hollaback Girl” is hardly rusty, swooping up one of the night’s most coveted performers.

16-year-old Lauren Frihauf took the stage during Monday night’s (Oct. 19) premiere to perform a rich, mature rendition of Melissa Etheridge’s “Come to My Window,” placing the Colorado native as a singer wise beyond her years and shocking Stefani and Legend as they turned their chairs to coax her onto their teams.

“You’re not you on that side, actually,” Stefani laughed, floored that Frihauf is only a teenager. “I can’t believe you’re 16, you’re so awesome!”

“Your voice has so much style and personality, and you have that wiggly little vibrato and then on top of that, though, you have all this hugeness,” she continued. “To be able to do all those things at once and be 16 years old, you’re like my dream person to work with on this show.”

Legend was left outnumbered, with both Clarkson and Shelton rallying behind Stefani as the contestant’s future coach. “Kelly and I used to be friends,” the “All of Me” singer joked when he was met with zero support.

As expected, Frihauf chose Stefani as her coach. Watch the audition below.
