Guentzel banks puck off Shesterkin’s skate for sixth goal of series
Guentzel #Guentzel
Jake Guentzel has the magic touch.
The Pittsburgh Penguins forward scored in his fifth consecutive playoff game in the first period of the Eastern Conference First Round on Wednesday when he banked a goal off the skate of New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin. After getting blocked by Shesterkin twice, Guentzel followed his rebound for the put-back off the goalie’s foot from below the goal line.
It was Guentzel’s sixth goal of the playoffs. In the second period, he recorded his seventh.
Since Guentzel’s playoff debut in 2017, he’s scored 33 playoff goals.
If his no-look, sharp-angle goal looks familiar, it may be because Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov scored the same type of goal in Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round. Kaprizov was past the goal line, threw the puck back towards the net and banked it off the skate of St. Louis Blues goalie Ville Husso.
