Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley was arrested and his Allendale home searched by FBI agents Thursday morning, the Detroit Free Press and other media outlets have reported.

A spokesperson for the FBI has not confirmed the warrants to MLive.

Kelley was present for the Jan. 6, 2021, rally and subsequent riot at the U.S. Capitol, though he has in the past asserted he did not enter the building.

He had pushed to arrest lawmakers and was pictured at the front of the crowd during that event. The FBI has not specified what Kelley has been charged with, though Federal charges are reportedly forthcoming, according to multiple outlets.

“As far as going through any barricades, or doing anything like that, I never took part in any forceful anything,” Kelley said in March 2021. “Once things started getting crazy, I left.”

Kelley is one of five remaining candidates in the Michigan’s Republican gubernatorial primary after half the field was removed from the ballot over fraudulent nominating petition signatures.
