The incident that left Wilson’s tooth hanging by a thread was not caught on camera.

But the former England international must have taken a hefty blow to the face in the crunch Premier League clash as the extent of his nasty injury soon became clear.

Newcastle’s physio looked into his gob to see his front tooth dangling.

Brave Wilson, 30, placed some tissue inside his mouth to try to keep it attached and soon made his way back onto the pitch after treatment pitchside.

But the moment was captured by Sky Sports cameras, and viewers quickly took to Twitter after viewing what looked to be an agonising blow.

One wrote: “Callum Wilson’s first start in months and he gets his front tooth kicked out This guy has no luck.”

Another tweeted: “Callum Wilson’s tooth has seen better days.”

Another viewer said: “Callum Wilson scoring the winner, pulling that tooth out, tucking it under the ball and laying down pretending it’s a pillow. All I want.”

While a fellow fan commented: “Callum Wilson is going to have a visit from the tooth fairy in the morning.”

Wilson was making his first start for Eddie Howe’s side since December after being sidelined through injury.

That calf injury was expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season but -after coming on as a sub against Man City last weekend, he was handed a start against the Gunners on Monday night.

Despite his long absence, Wilson still remains Newcastle’s top scorer this season with six going into this clash.

And he will be desperate to get his tooth problem sorted in time to face Burnley on Sunday.
